Native American Studies teaches students about the tribes that lived in the United States prior to its colonization, as well as how they are now. Because it is a history and a current events course, it is important to remember that these tribes, and their people, are very much still around. This course has challenged my own beliefs over the semester. When I signed up for the course, I thought it was going to be a simple and fun course to learn about the tribes. I learned the hard way that this course will challenge the learner to rethink the positions and much of the history that is taught in early education. This history needs to be taught, but there are some who will have a hard time hearing or understanding it.
My final assignment for this course has to do with the study of Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and the things that it can do to help the earth. Because the Climate Crises is getting ever closer to a full catastrophe, I wanted to see what the knowledge passed down by these tribes could do to help win that fight. My assignment is below for those that are interested in reading it.
